Description

Folios 238-239: John Thompson, Longparish, near Andover, Hampshire. Asking if the 'R' (deserter) can be removed from the name of John Monetta, also known as John Frederick, late Ordinary Seaman, SB number 86 on HMS Fly's books. Explains that Monetta who has served in the Navy for 18 years, deserted from HMS Fly on 15 March 1809 and was taken and put on HMS Thisbe on 21 March 1809 under the name of John Frederick, thereby being absent only for five days. From HMS Thisbe he moved to HMS Mermaid, Major Jacob Henniker, Captain, who speaks highly of him and he also has a certificate of good conduct from Sir George Burlton, Captain.

Folio 240: enclosure with folios 238-239:. Admiralty records Office slip, 21 May 1815. Noting the letter from John Thompson requesting the removal of an 'R' from against John Monetta, alias John Frederick, on HMS Fly's books, has been referred to the Navy Board on 23 May 1815.
