Folios 402-403: George Truscott, HMS Havock, Spithead. Covering letter [on folio 403] for a letter from the Navy Board respecting the pay of Edward Bryant, Midshipman whilst employed on the Gun Boat Service in Spain and request that direction be given that he be paid as an"Officer" during that period.
Folio 403: Copy of a letter dated 18 November 1814 from the Navy Board. Reply to letter dated 9 November 1814 that a ticket was sent to Sheerness last evening to pay Mr Edward Bryant, Midshipman for the time he was lent from HMS Havock to the Gun Boat Service, but that we are not authorised to pay him a higher rate than that of an Able Seaman, he being borne as a Supernumerary in HMS Harrier?: if he considers himself entitled to the pay of an officer for the time he commanded the Gunboat No. 22, he should apply to the Admiralty for an order to be paid accordingly.
