Description

Folios 150-151: Joseph Turner, Gosport. Enclosing three protections, taken from seamen sent to the Royal William, and noting that two of them bear the signature of Lagemann, named in their Lordships' order of the previous January, while the other is an American protection belonging to William Reed, yet was found on the person of Thomas Golding, late of the transport Henry, having been given it by Reed who possessed a second protection. Golding claims to have been cleared from the impress many times by means of this protection. Turner observes that protections in general are often suspicious, and their Lordships might consider addressing the evil by annulling all of them within a certain time period and allowing only new ones.

Folio 152: enclosure with folios 150-151. Official printed protection, no. 301, Virginia, from the Collector James Gibbon, with the name of William Reed entered into it, and the description of him as being aged 20, 5ft 3ins, light brown short hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. Dated 3 November 1804.

Folio 153: enclosure with folios 150-151. Official printed protection signed by William Lagemann, Consul for the Duke of Sleswig Holstein, completed in the name of Henry Witte, aged 5ft 5ins, with a tear on his left elbow, and two stiff fingers on the left, one on the right hand. Dated 11 June 1811.

Folio 154: enclosure with folios 150-151. Official printed protection signed by William Lagemann, as above. For Johan Friedrich Rose, light hair [rest of descriiption torn away]. Dated July 1810.
