Folios 128-129: John Tower, HMS Curacao, Milford Haven. Reports that HMS Curacao fell in off the Azores with the French Cartel General Wellesley from the Isle of France bound to Morlaix having on board Captain Lamerant [René Marcel Lamette] of the French Navy likewise other people under capitulation. It is necessary to mention that the Cartel was laying in Simms Bay, (Cape of Good Hope) on his arrival and he was applied to by the Master, Mr Brown, who stated that he had received great insult from Captain Lamerant [René Marcel Lamette]. As it appeared the Government of the Colony on application had declined interfering otherwise that recommending common Law. Mr Brown resigned the Master of the ship as did the Commissioner for Prisoners Mr Campbell and the agent of the East India Company directed the ship to proceed on her voyage. [Further details about the dispute, the ship and its cargo of Tea, Sugar, Coffee, Indigo, Cinnamon, Pepper etc. etc. etc. total of 60 tons].

Signed Henry Warde Major General and Josiah Rowley Commodore on the pact of the English Government and Vandermassen General of Division and Victor Dupperie Captain De Nesseace on the part of the French Government approved and ratified by Vice Admiral Bertie and Lieutenant General the Honourable Abercromby Commanders in Chief of His Majesty's Sea and Land Forces, with the following extracts:- Article 3, Article 5. [Total 2 plus sides] signed R T Farguhar, Port Louis, Isle of France 28 March 1811.
