Folios 1-2: James Haldane Tait, HMS Grampus, St Helena Roads. Reports an application from Colonel Beatson, Governor of St Helena, for a convoy of six ships from India to go to England. In view of their long detention at the Cape of Good Hope and their perishable cargoes, he has complied with this request and will be ready to sail as soon as the ships are ready. Reports on the state of other ships in the convoy ie HMS Ceylon, HMS Diana HMS Albion.
Folios 3-4: enclosure with folios 1-2. Letter dated 25 February 1809 by Alex Beatson, St Helena, St Helena to James Haldane Tait. Outlines reasons for advising him to take the ships at anchorage under his convoy and proceed to England as soon as they are ready to leave.
