Folios 476-477: John Child Purvis, HMS Royal George, Torbay. He has been asked to forward a certificates of the age and general progress of his son Richard Fortesque Purvis so that he may be considered for entrance at the Royal Academy at Portsmouth. This he now does with a certificate from his last schoolmaster. Since the date of the report he has either been at home or on board ship under the care of his father, Captain Purvis, who reports his morals to be good and his improvement continual.Foilios 478-479: enclosure with folios 476-477. Certification dated 7 January 1801 from William Burney to the effect that Richard Fortescue Purvis has been taught by him for two years and that he is a boy of good morals and can speak languagues and knows the rules of arithmetic.
