The Committee was established in June 1940, disbanded in June 1941, and re-established within the Office of Scientific Research to advise and assist the Director in the performance of his scientific research duties, with special reference to mobilisation of scientific personnel and the resources of the nation.
The Office of Scientific Research closed on 31 December 1947, and the records were transferred to the National Military Establishment.
There were various wartime agreements for the exchange of scientific and technical information between the allies; some exchanges still operate.
