Folios 251-252: John Temple, HMS Saint Albans, Yarmouth Roads. Reply to letter dated 1 April 1805 to state the cause for a vacancy for a Lieutenant. Reports that Lieutenant Thomas Smith having been surveyed and found unfit. Lieutenant G W Brown [Browne?] was appointed but had not joined prior to HMS Saint Albans being ordered to cruise off the Texel. He conceived it his duty to apply to Rear Admiral [Thomas Macnamara] Russell for an Acting Lieutenant.
