Folios 217-218: Edward Purcell, HMS Falmouth, English Harbour, Antigua.
As Captain Collier has been invalided from the command of the Falmouth, Commander Purcell is replying to the Admiralty's letter of the 14th June regarding Lawrence W. Donagh's petition for the sum of two guineas for boat attendance and watering. He reports that the boats of the Falmouth had been 'stoved in' while assisting the brigg Ann, which was wrecked in Galway Bay, and when boats were needed for watering and revictualling, it was agreed to pay the two guineas to Donagh for his help and the loan of his boat. However, as he only succeeded in bringing a small quantity of water they did not consider his services worth more than a couple of shillings. The purser did not have time to settle this before they sailed but said he would do so on their return to Galway. Admiralty note on rear says to advise Navy Board, and to do 'what may be fair'.
