Folios 235-235A: Fleetwood Pellew, HMS Revolutionaire, Malta. Covering letter for copies of two letters with enclosures, addressed to Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Francis Fremantle, on the subject of the senior lieutenancy and Lieutenant Roe of the Revolutionaire. The original letters were sent to the Commander in Chief at Naples.
Folios 236-236A: enclosure with folios 235-235A. Admiralty note dated 1 January 1820, saying that Sir Thomas Fremantle should be instructed to comply with Lieutenant Roe's wish to be superseded.
Folios 237-238: enclosure with folios 235-235A. Duplicate letter from Fleetwood Pellew to the Commander in Chief, dated 20 November 1819, aboard HMS Revolutionaire at Malta. Encloses a letter from Lieutenant Roe, asking to be superseded due to urgent family reasons absolutely requiring his presence. Note on rear says decision will wait until Admiralty have heard from the C in C.
Folios 239-239a: enclosure with folios 235-235a: copy of letter from Liutenant Robert Bradley Roe, to Captain Pellew, dated 16 November 1819, aboard HMS Revolutionaire. Asks the captain to intercede with the Admiralty to supersede him so that he can return to England to settle his affairs.
Folios 240-241: enclosure with folios 235-235A. Duplicate letter from Fleetwood Pellew to the Commander in Chief, dated 20 November 1819, aboard HMS Revolutionaire. He regrets having to forward a letter from Lieutenant Joseph Soady, the senior lieutenant on the ship, reporting that his health is so impaired he can no longer continue with his duties. Soady has been sent to the hospital in Malta and the surgeon confirms that a change of climate is absolutely necessary for his recovery. Pellew says that Soady's conduct has been very satisfactory but he regrets he will have to ask for a replacement to be sent out. Note on rear says Admiralty will decide on Soady's case after he has appeared before them in person.
Folios 242-243: enclosure with folios 235-235A: Duplicate letter from Joseph Soady to Captain Pellew, dated 20 November 1819, aboard HMS Revolutionaire. Explains that he has had constant ill health since joining the ship and could not even attend her refit. Thinks he is unlikely to recover on board ship and asks to be sent to the hospital, and if the medical men think necessary, that he be surveyed and sent back to England for recovery. Adds that nothing but extreme ill health would have caused him to reliquish his appointment and that he hopes to continue in the Service.
