Folios 229-230: William Popham, HMS Sybille, Port Royal. Enclosing a memorial from one of HMS Sybille's midshipmen, Angus George Barrette.
Folios 231-232: enclosure with folios 229-230. Memorial of Angus George Barrette, dated 12 September 1819, at Port Royal, Jamaica. States that his father, Colonel Barrette of the 41st Regiment, after 26 years service has died, leaving a large family. Angus's brother, Captain George Barrette, was killed in action on HMS Dominica, bravely fighting an enemy of greatly superior force. Angus himself has served for ten years, in the Undaunted at the storming of Capis in the Mediterranean, and in HMS Severn, at the destruction of the American flotilla at Chesapeake, and at St Mary's under the command of Sir George Cockburn. He has passed the necessary examination four years ago, feels he has always met with approbation from his various captains, and asks that he may be recommended to Rear Admiral Sir Home Popham, under whose command he wishes to serve.
