Description

Folios 233-234: John Temple, HMS Saint Albans, Horsley Bay. Acknowledge letter dated 10 March 1804 enclosing a writ of Habeas Corpus, an Affidavit and Mr Bicknell's Report [all 3 Inc.] on the case of Christopher Cairnes, a Linemanager in the Greenland Trade, impressed on HMS Saint Albans with their Lordships direction to discharge him if the Affidavit cannot be contradicted. In his letters of the 29 October 1803 and 20 November 1803 he represented the cause of the man being impressed: when his discharge was applied for by Mr Flowerdue, then calling him a Harpooner: whereas now in the Affidavit he has now received he is called a Linemanager; a very different occupation. Enclosed are the Habeas Corpus, Affidavit and report and request direction.
