Description

Folios 211-212: John Temple, HMS Saint Albans, Horsley Bay. Reply to letter dated 11 January 1804 to state the case of George Johnston, said to be a Harpooner in the Greenland Trade. His description did not match the protection produced and this was the reason he was impressed.

Folios 213-214: enclosure with folios 211-212. Charles Ogle, Customs House, Port of Newcastle. Letter certifying that John Humble, Owner of the ship Middleton of Newcastle did on the 25 August 1803 did make oath before us that it was his determined resolution that the said ship should next season proceed on voyage to the Greenland Seas or Davies Straits Whale Fishery and that George Johnson and John Richardson, amongst others were engaged as part of her crew. They received Protections no 3 as a Harpooner and No 11 as a Boatsterer on the 6 January 1804 [Verso] John Humble, Town and County of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Affidavit signed by Thomas Smith, Mayor about John Richardson who was impressed out of the ship Achilles, Captain Henderson in Horsley Bay by the Officers of HMS Africaine. Sworn on 6 January 1804.
