Description

Folios 186-187: Francis Temple, HMS Tartarus, Harwich. Reply to letter dated 19 January 1804 seeking information about any doubts that James Peers is actually the person who executed the indenture. Reports every reason to suppose both from the mans appearance and knowledge of seamanship that he cannot be the person described.

Folios 188-189: enclosure with folios 186-187. Letter dated 17 January 1804 by Francis Temple, HMS Tartarus, Harwich. Received directions from their Lordships by Admiral Rowley to report in the case of James Peers on HMS Tartarus. He did appear to the Officer who impressed him that he was really and bonafide the person whose description was inserted in the margin of the Protection.

Folio 190: enclosure with folios 186-187. Letter dated 31 December 1803 by Robert Nicholson, Master Mariner, London. Commander and past owner of the Ship Progress now in the River Thames make oath that James Peers is an apprentice of his. Dated 31 December 1803 Witnessed by Pemry? Mayor

Folio 191: enclosure with folios 186-187. Letter dated 31 December 1803 by Thomas Lingerson? 3 George Yard, Lombard Street. Covering letter for an affidavit of Robert Nicholson of the Ship Progress respecting the impress of his apprentice James Peers.
