Description

Folios 541-542: John Tower, HMS Lark at sea. States that Edward Alderson, Master of the Alnwick Packet was unable to produce any papers to prevent Thomas Arnott being impressed and that in fact Arnott volunteered, though he did not receive the King's Bounty as they had to put to see immediately.

Folios 543-544: enclosure with folios 541-542. Letter dated 20 May 1803 by Honourable Charles Grey, Little Stanhope Street. Is forwarding an affidavit from the committee of the Shipping Company at Alnwick.

Folios 545-546: enclosure with folios 541-542. James Elder, John Pringle, Ro[bert?] Patterson, Ralph Smith = Committee of the Alnwick Shipping Company.,17 May 1803. Requests the assistance of the Honourable Charles Grey. The master and Mate of a vessel over 50 tons is protected from the impress and the Alnwick Packet is 81 tons so Thomas Arnott should be discharged.

Folios 547-548: enclosure with folios 541-542. Affidavit of Edward Alderson, sworn at Warkworth on 17 May 1803 before John Clutterbuck, Justice of the Peace. States that Thomas Arnott did have a document showing he was the Mate of the Alnwick Packet but that the Impress said it was forged.
