Folios 186-187: Sandford Tatham, Greenock. Encloses an order from the Excise to provide one of the cutters contracted to the Navy and supposedly under his command. He supplies a list of the cutters some of which the Excise Board have already comandeered. He mainly regrets the loss of Princess Elizabeth and recounts that he had a Lieutenant on board her who had impressed 12 men on homeward bound ships but had to let them go when the order came through.
Folios 188-189: enclosure with folios 186-187. Letter dated 28 September 1803 by James West, Custom House , Edingburgh. The replacement cutter for the Prince Augustus Frederick will be ready in West Cowes, Isle of Wight on 4 October. The Prince Augustus Frederick is too frail to transport Dowie and his crew to John Gely's shipyard on the Isle of Wight so Captain Tatham is required to provide one of his for this service.
