Description

Folios 245-246: George Richard Pechell, HMS Bellette, Halifax. Recommends Mr. Ash for appointment to HMS Leander which has a vacancy. Praises his service over the years he has been a Warrant Officer.

Folio 247: enclosure with folios 245-246. Admiralty Office pro forma, not completed.

Folios 248-249: enclosure with folios 245-246. Copies of 7 testimonials for James Ash covering the periods he served.

HMS Robust. 29 October 1800- 1 June 1801, signed W[?] Brown. 4 HMS Robust 24 June 1801- 24 April 1802 signed W.H.Jervis. 5. HMS Creole 4 November 1803- 2 January 1804 signed Austin Bissell. 6. HMS Enterprize, 31 July 1804- 21 January 1805 signed William somerville. 7.HMS Clio 14 November 1807-7 September 1810 signed T.F. Baugh.

Folios 250-251: enclosure with folios 245-246. Copies of 2 testimonials and two letters.

[Another copy of no.7] HMS Clio 14 november -7 September 1810 signed T.F. Baugh. 8. HMS Clio 2 January 1811-20 April 1812 when he was sent ashore because of injury, signed William Farrington. Copy of a letter from Philip Patton at the Admiralty noting and supporting a request to remove James Ash from the Combatant. Copy of letter from Captain's clerk, W. Lelleller of HMS Bellette enclosing James Ash's certificates. 9. HMS Bellette, 26 May 1818- present (25 October 1818) signed [?] J. Pechell.

Folios 252-253: enclosure with folios 245-246. James Ash, HMS Bellette, Halifax Harbour. October 1818. Requests that he be appointed Gunner on HMS Leander and has many testimonials as to his good service to support his application.
