Description

Folios 466-467: Thomas Twysden, HMS Revolutionnaire, Plymouth Sound. Reports his arrival as per the Orders of Admiral Sir Robert Brice Kingsmill a copy of which is enclosed together with a report of the ship's defects.

Folio 468: enclosure with folios 466-467. Thomas Twysden, HMS Revolutionnaire, October 1800. Report on the ship's defects.

Folios 469-470: enclosure with folios 466-467. Orders dated 4 September 1800 by Sir Robert Brice Kingsmill, Admiral, HMS Glenmore, Cork Harbour, to Thomas Twysden, HMS Revolutionnaire. Copy of orders: to cruise between the Latitudes 48' 30" and 51' 50" North and Longitudes 9' 00" to 24' 00" West to protect a Privateer sailing from Bordeaux and several convoys expected from the Leeward Islands; to destroy and annoy any enemy cruisers; give escort into the Channel to any Merchant ships they may fall in with who are not sufficiently protected; principal attention is to be the safety of the West India fleets and to continue this service for six or seven weeks; then to proceed first to Cork and then to Plymouth to recaulk the ship and to bring the Purser of HMS Revolutionnaire to Plymouth to face a Court Martial; to strictly examine any prisoners taken from captured Privateers or recaptured Prizes to detect deserters from HMS Danae; and proceed with any information of the enemy having put to sea from Brest or any other intelligence as directed in his former Order of 7 July 1800.
