Folios 529-530: George Tripp, HMS Nassau, Downs. Has anchored at this place by signal where he found their letter dated 2 August 1799 requesting to know the names of the Lieutenants on HMS Nassau. They are:- Mr J M Rede is the Senior Lieutenant, Mr William Vasper the next (but he is now appointed to HMS Mars) and Mr Richard Hawkes is Acting Lieutenant, by Vice Admiral Alexander Graeme's Order. Request the compliment of Lieutenants be made up, to join the ship in Torbay.
