Description

Folios 461-462: Thomas Totty, HMS Saturn, Spithead. Reports that Rear Admiral Sir Charles Cotton (5th Baronet) having directed three captains belonging to the Squadron under the command of Admiral Lord Bridport [Lord Alexander Arthur Hood (1st Viscount Bridport)], to enquire into the circumstances of the charges exhibited by Lieutenant Thomas Heddington against Mr Thomas Coleman, Master's Mate both of HMS Saturn and enclose the findings.

Folios 463-464: enclosure with folios 461-462. Letter dated 11 November 1799 by 2nd Lieutenant Thomas Heddington, HMS Saturn, Torbay. Requesting that Mr Thomas Coleman, Master's Mate be Court Martialed for Contempt and Insolence on the 9 November 1799.

Folios 465-466: enclosure with folios 461-462. Letter dated 12 November 1799 by Thomas Totty, HMS Saturn, Torbay. Covering letter for a letter received from Lieutenant Thomas Heddington, HMS Saturn, requesting that Mr Thomas Coleman, Master's Mate be Court Martialed for behaving with Contempt and Insolence.

Folios 467-468: enclosure with folios 461-462. Letter dated 6 December 1799 by John Sutton, Charles Stirling and Robert D Lancourt, HMS Gladiator, Portsmouth Harbour. Dated 6 December 1799. Following direction from Sir Charles Cotton (5th Baronet) to investigate charges made by Lieutenant Thomas Heddington against Mr Thomas Coleman, Master's Mate, both on HMS Saturn. Find that there is no just ground for the Lieutenant's charges.
