Folios 451-452: Thomas Totty, HMS Saturn, Off Brest. Reporting that, as per the orders of Admiral Lord Bridport, he sailed from Cawsand Bay on the 21 June 1799 with HMS's Magnamine, Amelia and Lady Jane (Cutter) under his orders and proceeded with all possible dispatch towards the Port of Brest, and on the morning of the 23 June , stood off with the squadron close in to St Mathews point to reconoiter the Port of Brest and asertain the Enemy's Naval Force. He observed 5 Sail of Men of War laying at anchor in the harbour, three had their sails bint, one of which he judged to be a ship of the line, the other two Frigates, the remaining two sail were apparantly in no great forwardness in their equipmenmt for sea, one of these he also took to be a ship of the line. There were also three Frigates and a Brig laying in Cainaret Road all of which got under sailso soon as he had approached within four miles.
