1799 June 9
Folios 99-100: Sandford Tatham, North Shields. Reply to letter dated 5 June 1799 in the case of John Irving. He was impressed by Lieutenant Clarke on the 19 April 1799 because his name was not on the said vessels Articles as Mate, either for the present, or the former voyage which he went in the vessel, as the law requires, and the Master of the vessel offering Lieutenant Clarke a bribe to release [John] Irving, he had every reason to believe he was not in reality Mate of the vessel.
