Folios 590-591: Peter Puget, Chatham tender. He is requesting discharges for Messrs Scott, Garrison and Addington. Captain Hawkins Whitshed said he would receive Mr Le Mesurier Mate into HMS Namur along with his clerk Edward Bell. Thomas Townsend, Hawkins Lloyd and James Robertson could join HMS Star as two Gunners and a Boatswain. John Hendrick, a Sandwich Islander, [Perhaps he was named after John Kendrick, the famous American sea Captain killed in Hawaii or Sandwich Islands in 1794] came to him at [Noctau] having been given away to a Spanish ship. He said the priests persecuted him to become a Christian so Puget took him as a servant as he cannot speak English but Puget can speak the Sandwich Island language. He wants Kendrick to be looked after and educated so he can return to [Olwyhic] in a few years. He is now with Mr John Birch.
