Folios 331-334: Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Prince Regent, Kingston. In the papers forwarded with letter number 36 about the Navigation and means of transport between Kingston and Montreal, he referred to the benefit provided by the establishment of steam boats on the parts of the River free from rapids. Major General Sir Sydney Beckwith, Quarter Master General, is generally impressed with the importance of Kingston, and a meeting has been held with local inhabitants who are also convinced of the benefits of steam boats. He has also raised it with Sir Gordon Drummond. Points out the importance in relation to keeping the Americans out of the Colony. Requests Admiralty assistance in enabling this.
