Folios 210-211: Thomas Thompson, Lazarette at Trieste. Reports that on his arrival he wrote to Sir Horatio Nelson.
Folios 212-215: enclosed with folios 210-211. Thomas Thompson writes on 13 October 1798 to Nelson reporting that HMS Leander under his command was captured by a French vessel near Goza and the island of Candia. He gives a detailed account of the action against a larger and better armed vessel the Genereux under Captain Lejoille. Commends the action of Captain Edward Berry of HMS Vanguard and the officers and crew of HMS Leander. A list shows that 2 officers were killed: Peter Downs and Edward Haddon, both Midshipman of HMS Caroline. Twenty four seamen were killed, not named, together with Sergeant Dair and 8 Privates of the Marines. Captain Thompson was wounded as were Lieutenants Taylor and Swiney, Mr Lee the Master, Mr Matthias the Boatswain, Mr Lacky the Master's Mate, Mr Nailor a Midshipman. In all 35 men killed and 57 injured.
