Folios 125-126: Sandford Tatham, North Shields. Captain Parr of HMS Zealand had examined the matter of Lieutenant William Abbes accused of taking bribes. Two JPs at Sunderland, Rev Dr Paley and Mr Robinson heard from Robert Embleton, Christopher Needham and his wife, Midshipmen Winshill and Steel.
Folios 127-128: enclosed with folios 125-126. Letter dated 23 October 1798 by William Paley and G Robinson, Sunderland, signed a statement concerning the evidence given by Elizabeth Needham having given money to Embleton to pass to Midshipmen Gilbert Steel and John Winscale [?] so that her husband might not be impressed. The Midshipmen were also questioned.
Folios 129-130: enclosed with folios 125-126. Letter dated 24 October 1798 by Sandford Tatham, Sunderland, reports that Robert Thompson, one of Lieutenant Abbs' gang, had been informed that Robert Thompson and George Brown paid for their release. Ralph Dixon corroborates that evidence. James Craig, Joseph Brown and catherine Thompson spoke in defence of Abbs and a very detailed account follows.
Folios 131-132: enclosed with folios 125-126. Letter dated 8 April 1794 by John Shortland, Whitby, writes concerning Benjamin Simmons or Simmeris and James Hudspeth.
Folios 133-134: enclosed with folios 125-126. Letter dated 23 October 1798 by Sandford Tatham, Sunderland, referes to a statement by Elizabeth Needham.
