Folios 534-537: George Tripp, HMS Sampson in Harmoaze. Following the refusal of the Admiralty not to appoint him to HMS Veteran, he is anxious to give his side of the events leading up to the collision between HMS Sampson and HMS Hannibal off Jamaica especially as Commodore John Thomas Duckworth of HMS Cormorant had heard that HMS Sampson was to blame. HMS Canada and HMS Success were not involved. As both he and Joseph Bingham, captain of HMS Hannibal were sick, both ships were under the control of first lieutenants. If he had felt that HMS Sampson was to blame, he would have written for a court martial.
