Folios 289-290: Henry Trollope, HMS Glatton, Deptford. Reporting that the wind being fair and the Pilot on board he hopes to be in Long Reach today. Enclosed [Not Inc.] he has sent a weekly account by which it will be seen that they have a very small proportion of Seaman to Landsman. Request that Captain James Robert Mosse of HMS Sandwich to send a draft of Able Seaman from HMS Sandwich to Long Reach as he can then answer for their safety as they have the rigging to overhaul and refit the most of it at Long Reach and this will take much longer without more Seaman. Request orders to bear what numbers of Landsman that may be sent from HMS Enterprise more than our proportion of one third of the compliment supernumeraries and to be supplied with Ordinary and Able Seaman for the other two thirds, as it is expected they may be in actual service very soon and too many Landsmen will affect the defence and the working of the ship. As the ship is Experimental it should be fairly manned.
