Captured ship: Blessing of Ramsgate (master Thomas Russell; [prize master Jacob der Meijer of Middelburg, otherwise Jacob de Maer]);
History: a English merchant ship (ketch, 87 tons), bound from Bordeaux to London, laden with French wine, brandy, rosin and walnut planks; taken on 21/31 July 1672 about 4-6 miles off Dover by two Dutch privateers of Middelburg, one of 6 guns, the other of 7 guns (Jasper Cornelisen and George Jasperson commanding), who took off all the crew but the mate John Ralfe, retaken 6-8 hours later between Gravelines and Dunkirk by the shallop Endeavour (of the Custom House of Southampton, Laurence Cole commanding) and brought into [Dover].
