Folios 279-280: William Taylor, HMS La Prompte, in Leith Roads.
Acknowledges receipt of Admiralty instructions dated 31 October, to proceed on a cruise, together with the cutter Resolution, as near to Bergen, Norway, as can be done safely. They are to 'watch the motions of a French squadron and their prizes' and to follow them to sea as long as it takes to ascertain their course, then to communicate this to Rear Admiral Harvey or Vice Admiral Kingsmill. He is almost done with the provisioning and repair of the ship and hopes to proceed on 6 Novermber. The Resolution is currently in Shetland, but he will leave orders for her to follow.
