Description

Folios 190-191: William Skipsey, HMS Maidstone, Halifax. In his letter of the 16 May 1815 which was forwarded by HMS Escort, detailing information (in the absence of Rear Admiral Edward Griffith) of the transactions of this port. HMS's Leander, Newcastle and Acasta, having been refitted, sailed for Quebec on the 21 May 1815, HMS's Madagascar and Calliope are now underway to the same destination. Which will make the force for conveying the Canadian Army home amount to 4 Frigates, 1 20 Gun Ship and 1 Sloop. HMS Bacchante has received orders (as per the letter dated 16 May 1815) for this service but in consequence of receiving the letter, enclosed, he ordered HMS Madagascar to take her place. HMS's Bacchante and Curlew with HMS's Melpomene and Ceylon Troop Ships are ordered to take on board the 64th Regiment today and to be ready to sail for England tomorrow morning.

Folio 193: enclosure with folios 190-191. Letter dated 16 May 1815 by Francis Stanfell, HMS Bacchante, Halifax. Covering letter from the Petty Officers of HMS Bacchante on behalf of themselves and Ships Company. Dated 16 May 1815.

Folios 194-195: enclosure with folios 190-191. Letter dated 16 May 1815 by the Petty Officers of HMS Bacchante, Halifax Harbour. Petition signed by 29 Petty Officers on behalf of themselves and the ships company, that after 3 years service away from England other ships are going home with less service than theirs.
