Description

Folios 157-158: William Skipsey, HMS Maidstone, Halifax. Covering letter for a copy of his letter dated 24 May 1815 sent on HMS Bacchante.

Folios 159-160: enclosure with folios 157-158. (Duplicate) William Skipsey, HMS Maidstone, Halifax. Reply to letter dated 15 May 1815 which was forwarded by HMS Escort. Reporting (in the absence of Rear Admiral Anselm John Griffiths), the transactions at this port. HMS's Leander, Newcastle and Acasta, having been refitted sailed for Quebec on 21 May 1815 and that HMS's Madagascar and Calliope, are now under way for the same destination. This will make the force for conveying the Canadian Army home to four Frigates one 20 Gun Ship and one Sloop. HMS Bacchante had received orders (previous letter dated 16 May 1815) for this service but with the letter from Captain Stanfell it was indicated that HMS Madagascar to take the place of HMS Bacchante and HMS Curlew with HMS's Melpomene and Ceylon, Troop Ships are ordered to take on board the 64th Regiment today and sail for England tomorrow.
