Description

Folios 139-142. Letter from the Earl of Buckingham to the Lord Viscount Weymouth enclosing a letter received from Joshua Hamilton Esquire, [Customs] Collector at Newry, giving an account of a ship suspected to be an American Privateer having been seen on that coast. Buckingham has given instructions for the Commanders of His Majesty's Ships cruising between Cape Clear and Ushant to be acquainted therewith as soon as possible. Dated at Dublin Castle. Enclosed. Folios 141-142: Letter from Joshua Hamilton to Sir Thomas Heron, dated 24 June 1777 at Custom House Newry, reporting an account received that evening of a large ship with 32 guns and capable of sailing fast standing in the Bay of Dundalk; when approached those on board would not tell of whence they came nor allow another to go alongside.
