Administrative / biographical background

The aim of Army Co-operation Command, formed on 1 December 1940, was to give air support to the army in the field, by reconnaissance, close-support bombing, landing of airborne troops and provision of Air Observation Posts for the Artillery. The Command consisted of a headquaters and two groups - No 70(AC) Group (responsible for training and development) and No 71 (AC) Group (operational group).

The Command disbanded on 1 June 1943 and its functions were absorbed by the Tactical Air Force (later Second Tactical Air Force).
