Folios 96-97: James Pattison Stewart, HMS Amphion, Nore. Advising that the Amphion has brought no convoy from Gothenburg, having had the enclosed direction from Captain Peter Rye, superintending Port Duty. The Kangaroo sailed the day before the Amphion, with charge of the convoy.
Folios 93-94: enclosure with folios 96-97. Letter from Captain Peter Rye, of HMS Ceylon at Hawke Road, 7 September 1813. Acknowledges receipt of Stewart's letter in answer to his request for a passage to England for Madame de [Tatischoff?] and her suite in the Amphion. Says he has been directed to send her in a frigate or sloop of war, and not one attached to a convoy. As there is sufficient force to protect the homeward bound trade without the Amphion, and as the ladies are anxious and ready to leave, asks again that Stewart takes them aboard and sails to Yarmouth or the nearest port, in compliance with his orders. Admiralty note on rear of folio 96 queries why Rye took this action.
