Description

Folios 355-356: James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth. As requested by Daniel Campbell, master of the Ann Maria, American Cartel, that the enclosed papers be examined. Mr Barrow also mentioned.

Folios 357-358: enclosure with folios 355-356. Letter dated 22 July 1813 by James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth, to Mr [Secretary?] Croker of the Admiralty. Copy of a letter and notes about the case of Daniel Campbell, believed to be Irish, including his certificate of naturalization and allegance to the United States of America, having renounced his allegance to the King of the United Kingdom and Britain which was given under seal in the Justice court of New York and signed by John Siddell (Clerk). The Brig Anna Maria American Cartel and Lord Melville also mentioned.

Folios 360-361: enclosure with folios 355-356. Letter dated 4 August 1813 by Daniel Campbell, HMS Experiment, Falmouth, to James Slade. A letter complaining of his arrest and detainment, explaining his residency in New York and his merchant trade from America to Falmouth for orders addressed to House of [Frasers?] and Sons. Also mention of his job as pilot to English vessels to [Ascension?] Island etc plus his trial to save him from being a [slave?] in Brest.
