Description

Folios 134-135: James Keith Shepard, [El Corso?], Gravesend. Description and regarding George Elliot Wright, impressed by Lieutenant Petley from the Ship Fortitude off Gravesend. He believes that there are discrepancies with his papers.

Folios 136-137: enclosure with folios 134-135. Duncan McArthur [Master of the Fortitude?], Crown and Magpye, Aldgate, 6 July 1813, to the Admiralty. Regarding the impressment of his Apprentice George Wright on board the Fortitude near Gravesend as it was sailing from St Lucia. Requesting his Apprentice's discharge because of his Indenture paperwork which offers protection from impressment. An Affidavit of witness to the execution of the Indenture also enclosed. Affidavit signed on 6 July 1813 by John Gilson and Albinus Carter before [F Walsh?], a JP of the Middlesex County, stating that they witnessed the Indenture between George Wright and Duncan McArthur on the date given on the document.

Folios 138 -139: enclosure with folios 134-135. John Barrow, James Buller, [Bickwith?] and [York?], 22 May 1811, to all Commanders and Officers of His Majesty's Ships and Pressmasters. Document requesting that George Wright be freed and exempted from impressment after proof of his Apprenticeship to Duncan McArthur had been shown.
