Description

Folios 77-78: James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth. Regarding the arrival of HM late Packet Lapwing as a Cartel, after capture by the American Privateer Brig Rattlesnake while travelling home from [Corunna/Carunna?]. Seeking advise about how to deal with the American Prize Master in charge of the HM Packet Lapwing. A copy of the agreement between the Commander of the Privateer and the captured Officers and Crew is enclosed.

Folios 79-80: enclosure with folios 77-78. Agreement between David Moffat, Commander of the private armed Brig Rattlesnake from Philadelphia, and Edward Ellworthy, Commander of HM Late Packet Lapwing, 29 June 1813. The following agree not to act against the United States during the present war allowing the Packet Lapwing to sail home under a flag of truce whilst under the control of Officer Captain Moffat. Also, on arrival, the Packet Lapwing, Captain Edward Ellworthy, his officers and crew plus [Binito Lintor?] American Council at [Caruna?], Spain be delivered to the American agent for prisoners so prisoners can be returned to the United States.
