Folios 26-27. Letter from the Lord Viscount Weymouth to 1st Earl Harcourt marked 'Secret and Confidential' and responding to the latter's letter of 9 May 1776 on the augmentation of the cavalry. Harcourt's explanations were considered by the King's confidential servants who unanimously opined that that the measures taken by him were essentially necessary to the security of the Kingdom and service of the King. Weymouth relays the King's commands that Harcourt give immediate orders for augmenting by recruits the four regiments of horse and seven regiments of dragoons then in Ireland with one corporal and ten private dismounted men to each troop of horse and dragoons. Weymouth further assures Harcourt that he did not consider the latter's actions as a want of regard to him. Dated at St James's.
