Training Command developed out of the Inland Area of the RAF at home, and became Training Command on 4 July 1936. On 27 May 1940 the Command was split into two; Flying Training Command and Technical Training Command.
Flying Training Command was responsible for aircrew training and selection of all candidates for such training.
The main functions of Technical Training Command were administrative, engineering, signals and recruit training. Another task was the reception and despatch of drafts and reinforcements to and from overseas. Units such as hospitals and the RAF depot at Uxbridge came under Technical Training Command's control together with responsibility for RAF Regiment training.
Technical Training Command was amalgamated with Flying Training Command on 1 June 1968 to form a revived Training Command. This Command in turn was disbanded in 1977 and its functions absorbed by RAF Support Command.
