Description

Captured ship: Stockholm (master John or Jan Roosen).

History: a Hamburg merchant ship (200 tons) bound from Hamburg to Lisbon, laden with lead, iron, bale goods, knives, boxes, deals, and stockfish; taken on 18/28 November 1693 in the Downs by the privateers London (William Lord commanding) and Expedition (James Johnson commanding).

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: interrogatories, two examinations;
  • [CP 3]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Hamburg and Stockholm;
  • [CP 4]: allegation;
  • [CP 5]: power of attorney for James Johnson;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: allegation, interrogatories;
  • [CP 8]: papers relating to the sale of the ship's goods, being a letter, affidavit and a pro forma document certifying the sale of different lots;
  • [CP 9-CP 12]: inventory, affidavit relating to the sale of the goods, appraisement, commission of appraisement;
  • [CP 13-CP 14]: two bills of charges;
  • [CP 15-CP 16]: two attestations regarding an agreement between the captors to sell the ship and its cargo.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 27 January 1693; appealed].
