Description

Captured ship: St Stephen of Wexford (master Samuel Dussell).

History: an Irish ship (50 tons), bound from Wexford to London, laden with herring; first taken on 19/29 February 1694/5 off Lundy by the French privateer Grand Prieur and then retaken on 22 February / March 1694/5 off Cape Frehel by HMS Sapphire (John Lytcott commanding), and brought into Jersey.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 4/4:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: three examinations;
  • [CP 3]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Wexford;
  • [CP 4-CP 4/4]: attestation as to the ownership of the cargo with four annexed exhibits, which are three letters concerning the ship's voyage from John Shalopin at Wexford to James Dean at London, with a bill of lading.
