Captured ship: Spy Galley of Bristol (master John Hitchcock).
History: an English merchant ship (70 tons) bound from Malaga to Bristol, laden with wine, fruit, and soap; first taken in fight on 25 July / 4 August 1697 off Cape Clear by a French privateer of Morlaix and then retaken on 31 July / 10 August 1697 off Morlaix HMS Rochester (Robert Kirkstone commanding), and brought into Plymouth.
