Description

Folios 520-521: James Keith Shepard, Regulating Officer, Gravesend. States the case of William Elliot, Apprentice, aged 21, who was impressed by Lieutenant Petley on 12 August 1812 from the Brig Ruby, inward bound off Gravesend. Notes his signature is not on the enclosed Indenture and the Counterpart has not been produced.

Folios 522-523: enclosure with folios 520-521. Letter dated 24 August 1812 by Abraham Peell, Notary, George Yard, Lombard Street, to John Barrow, the Admiralty. Encloses the indenture [not present] of William Elliott, Apprentice to James Dean of London, Haberdasher, and who absconded 8 months ago and joined the Brig Ruby from which he was impressed on 12 August and detained on HMS Corso. Requests his immediate release.
