Folios 446-447: James Keith Shepard, Regulating Captain, Gravesend. Acknowledges enclosed application and states the case of William Barge, aged 20, impressed on 1 August 1812 by Lieutenant Petley from the Orpheus, inbound off Gravesend. He has been rated Able Seaman and sent to the Nore.
Folio 448: enclosure with folios 446-447. Letter dated 12 August 1812 by Mr Manning of New Street, Spring Gardens, London, to John Barrow of the Admiralty. Requests, on behalf of a Mercantile House, the release of William Barge, son of a Captain now deceased, and whose aunt depends on him for support. Offers to pay a fine or by providing substitutes.
