Description

Folios 364-365: James Keith Shepard, Regulating Officer, Gravesend. Encloses a petition from the men in the Press Gang in Gravesend.

Folios 366-367: Petition from the Press Gang at Gravesend dated 11 July 1812 to James Keith Shepard, Captain and Regulating Officer at Gravesend. Asking for weekly pay to be raised to one Guinea each on account of the price of bread and other 'necessary of life'. Claim that others employed elsewhere in London in the Impress Service are being paid this amount. Signed by or mark of 18 men: Thomas Dunks, Samuel Brown, Thomas Reed, James Willard, William [Rowe?], Edward Barnes, Thomas Baylery, John Hunt, James Burrow, Francis Barrett, William Barker, John Barnett, William Tubbs, Samuel Turner, Edward Page, William Brown, [John?] Miller, James Welch.
