Folios 299-300: James Sanders, HMS Junon, Spithead. Reports his arrival and confirms he has ordered, on 28 June, part of the convoy to proceed to the Northern tropics. East India Company ships the Fairlie, the Carmarthen and the Alexander were left at Madeira where he was also asked to anchor for 42 hours at the request of the captains of the East India Company ships the Marchioness of Ely and the Apollo, and whose letters are enclosed, to take on water. HMS Junon then stopped at Fayal [Faial] to take on 70 tons of water, leaving the island on 16 July 1812.
Folios 301-302: enclosure with folios 299-300. Letter dated 15 June 1812 by Charles Bryan Tarbutt, Captain, East India Company ship the Apollo, to James Sanders, HMS Junon. In reply explains, that from experience and the prevailing calms of the season, it is necessary to anchor at Madeira to take on water, in order to complete their business.
Folios 303-304: enclosure with folios 299-300. Letter dated 14 June 1812 by Brook Kay, Captain, East India Company ship the Marchioness of Ely, at sea, to James Sanders, HMS Junon. Writing to explain that with 286 military on board plus 23 passengers and his regular crew, he needs to take on additional water at Madeira before proceeding to the Isle of France.
Folios 305-306: enclosure with folios 299-300. Letter dated 15 June 1812 by Charles Bryan Tarbutt, Captain, East India Company ship the Apollo, 1to James Sanders, HMS Junon. Requests permission to go into Madeira to take on water for the troops on board who have been sick since embarking.
