Folios 240-241: James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth. Responding to the request to state the case of William Currant, late Carpenter HM Packet the Duke of Montrose, and what grounds he has to consider him to be a deserter from HMS Surly and, if he has none, to discharge him. Explains a William Currant who deserted from HMS Surly was apprehended in Penryn and was sent to the Flag Ship at Plymouth on 10 June on HMS Orestes. He has therefore discharged William Currant, late of HM Packet Duke of Montrose.
Folios 242- 243: enclosure with folios 240-241. Petition dated 3 May 1812 of William Currant, late Carpenter of HMS Packet the Duke of Montrose and now serving as a Supernumerary Ordinary Seaman on HMS Experiment, Falmouth to the Admiralty. Asks to purchase his discharge on the grounds that he is becoming too old for service at sea and that he has saved a little money to enable him to gain a livelihood out of the service. Includes a record of his service mentioning HMS Princess Royal; the Townsend under Captain Dodd, the Princess Charlotte under Captain Kerr and HMS Packet Duke of Montrose.
