Folios 216-217: John Smith, HMS Beagle, Killibegs. Acknowledging receipt of orders to proceed immediately to Portsmouth but explains he will sail around the north of the island, to spend a few days in the Channel in the hope of impressing men out of ships bound to and from Liverpool and Greenock. Also reports that he has taken on board HMS Beagle, six impressed men, who were likely to desert, from Lieutenant James Morgan, Commander of HMS Barbara as well as three supernumerarys. Has given an Order for John Lipsett to act as Assistant Surgeon on HMS Barbara as the former has been discharged by Admiralty Order.
