Description

Folios 156-157: Peter Spicer, Swansea. Responding to the request to state what he believes to be best for the Impress Service as a result of Lieutenant William Nolter's application for his service on HMS Ant to be dispensed with. States that Lieutenant Nolter is too weak to take command of the vessel and should remain on shore to best serve the Impress Service. Draws attention to his earlier letter of 13 May 1812 in which he explained his plan to man HMS Ant with a Midshipman and six men, which has been successfully done before under his predecessor Captain Anthony Gibbs. Suggests that if this is not acceptable, a Sub-Lieutenant is appointed instead.

Folios 158-159: enclosure with folios 156-157. Admiralty Order, 23 June 1812. Lieutenant Daniel [Sherven?] to be appointed to the Impress Service at Swansea.

Folios 160-161: enclosure with folios 156-157. Letter dated 11 June 1812 by William Nolter, Lieutenant, Swansea, to John Wilson Croker, the Admiralty. Covering note.
